Nabuurs optimizes logistics network with smart software from More Optimal
Smarter planning, better loading, more efficient combinations
As a leading logistics service provider in the FMCG sector, Nabuurs is fully committed to optimizing transport and warehousing. With the help of the optimization platform from More Optimal, the company from Haps gains better control over its processes, uses its network more intelligently, and increases customer satisfaction. Ard Nabuurs: “Thanks to the software from More Optimal, we can offer our services in a modular and customer-focused way – from co-packing to e-commerce – while efficiently bundling our goods flows.”

From poultry to city logistics: a complex network requires smart coordination
Originally started as a poultry transporter, Nabuurs has significantly expanded its scope over the years. In addition to traditional transport, the organization now also handles factory logistics, retail distribution concepts, and urban deliveries. With distribution centers in locations such as Oosterhout, Hedel, and eight regional hubs, and a fleet of 350 vehicles, the logistics landscape is both broad and complex.
This diversity in locations, vehicles, and customers made the next step in optimization essential. Low margins are typical in the sector, so efficiency is not a luxury but a necessity. The partnership with More Optimal, which began in 2017, plays a key role in continuously optimizing operations and maintaining that efficiency.

Local and central control: planning that thinks ahead
Nabuurs and More Optimal configured the planning module together to match Nabuurs’ operational landscape precisely. The software continuously evaluates: what is the most efficient route, combination, or loading? It accounts for realistic constraints and practical opportunities—before unnecessary kilometers are driven—such as assigning co-drivers, planning return freight, or maximizing load capacity.
In addition to transport planning, the software also plays a role in managing warehouse activities. Does Nabuurs expect higher volume on a certain day? The system proactively adjusts for additional workload in the warehouse. This integration between transport and warehousing enables optimal use of people, resources, and vehicles.

Practical example: fewer surprises, more control
Around one hundred trucks leave the Oosterhout distribution center every day. On paper, volumes may seem stable, but in reality, they fluctuate. These fluctuations can impact transport, staffing levels, and customer commitments. Thanks to More Optimal's software, Nabuurs can proactively respond. Deviations are corrected immediately—or, if needed, the customer is contacted directly.
Even better than reacting is anticipating—and that’s exactly what More Optimal enables. By detecting increases or decreases in workload early on, both in the warehouse and transport, the company can proactively balance operations. Think of pulling forward or postponing orders, or combining them more intelligently. The hiring of external warehouse staff is also aligned with forecasts generated in More Optimal.

Seizing opportunities: from retail to city logistics
With greater insight come new opportunities. Nabuurs is currently exploring how retail and urban logistics flows can be combined. While retail volumes tend to be larger, city logistics often involves smaller deliveries with specific requirements—such as deliveries to hospitality venues within time windows or using electric vehicles.
“Thanks to the tools from More Optimal, we can make better decisions,” says Ard Nabuurs. “For example, when to combine routes and when not to, or where to add small customers to increase efficiency.”

Cost savings and improved service
The benefits of optimization are not just financial. Yes, vehicles are more efficiently loaded and routes are better planned, but service quality also improves. Warehouse staff is better prepared for incoming loads, and drivers and planners are more capable of responding on time. This results in predictable and high-quality service for Nabuurs’ customers.
Sustainable and future-focused collaboration
“We want our customers to see network combinations as a benefit – not as a compromise,” says Ard Nabuurs. “Sustainability plays an increasingly important role. By planning and bundling more intelligently, we not only reduce costs but also lower our CO2 emissions.”
The collaboration with More Optimal enables Nabuurs to flexibly adapt its network to changing customer demands and market conditions. From simulations to live applications – More Optimal’s tools deliver value on a daily basis.
